Sept. 29-Oct. 10

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to a great new week. I'm looking forward to meeting with each of you this week to discuss and celebrate your student. Remember school will be out at 2:30 each day this week.

Math: We completed chapter two last week and have been working on chapter three.
 Chapter 3 concepts...
3-1  Multiply by Tens

3-3 Area Models and Partial Products
3-4  Multiply Using Partial Products
3-5  Multiply With Regrouping

Science:
We had a great time on the field trip last week. This class was one of the most attentive and inquisitive classes I've taken on that particular field trip...it was great to see them work. We are continuing to study rocks and minerals.

Writing:
We have been focusing on writing to inform, as well as just giving the gist so we aren't copying another person's work. We've also focused on researching and creating a "skeleton" for our writing. I can't wait to see what these students are able to accomplish in writing this year!!!!

Spelling:
Sept. 29-Oct. 3rd; Spelling List #4 Bonus Words: erosion & distributive

Homework:
Sept. 29-Oct. 3; pgs. 29-32
***Please look for the orange-colored paper that has instructions for online resources for the GoMath program to help reinforce the math concepts we're working on at school (sent home Tuesday).
***I have copied and made available times table drill pages for the students to take home if they would like.

Look over, sign, and return the Progress Report to school by Friday of this week. Please encourage your child to make up any missing assignments.

As many of you may know, the first spelling test didn't turn out super-awesome for many of the students. You can use a few minutes of reading time to practice the spelling words at home each night.

September 8-12

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to a great new week of learning!!! Yesterday we had guests from Loveland Living Planet Aquarium bring in some of the animals from the museum. Our guests shared some great information about adaptations, wetlands, reptiles, and amphibians. This will be a unit of study later in the year, but I think this sharp bunch of kids will remember their newly acquired information when the time comes to dig in deeper to this unit.

Math: The chapter 1 test went well. Students have graphed their score and put the test in their binder to share with you at SEPs. The scores have also been entered into grades so you can go take a peak now, or wait for the next printout on September 22nd.

  • 2-1  Algebra  Multiplication  Comparisons
  • 2-2  Algebra Comparison Problems
  • 2-3  Multiply Tens, Hundreds, and Thousands

Literacy:
We had a great surprise in library this week. Students from the ESL program at S.U.U. greeted us and read/interacted with the students as part of their own learning process. Our students enjoyed learning more about the students and their culture. We're glad to be a safe audience for them to practice their new skills on and look forward to listening to them read folktales next week.  We also took advantage of the Book Mobile. Students were able to check 2 books out and can return those books (or recheck them) on the 23rd of this month.

Science:
We will soon wrap up the fossil unit and begin studying rocks, minerals, and soil.

Writing:
We have been focusing on writing to inform, as well as just giving the gist so we aren't copying another person's work. We've also focused on researching and creating a "skeleton" for our writing. I can't wait to see what these students are able to accomplish in writing this year!!!!

Spelling:
The students were given the first spelling list on Monday. Your child is responsible to add the bonus words to the list and bring it home to study. If you haven't seen it yet, you can remind them to bring it home soon. Our first spelling test will be this Friday.

Homework:
Thank you for taking the time to review and check your child's homework last week.
