March 27

March 27, 2012

Dear Parents,
Thank you all for your support in helping your child prepare a great science fair project.  I had a chance to go through and see each project.  They were all wonderful, and the school was buzzing with excitement as the students shared their projects.
The school year is quickly passing, but we still have many fun, exciting, and important activities to come.  One thing we will be focusing on is preparing for and taking the End of Level tests.  I am planning on letting the students earn an ice cream sundae party as a reward for completing various reviews and activities to prepare for testing.  This will be similar to the cornucopia celebration we had in November for times table pass offs.  More details about this will come home in the coming weeks.
We are currently learning about mountain men and will be creating a possible bag next week.  Each student needs to bring 1 or 2 pieces of felt (we’ll share colors). Any color is fine.  Please send the felt by Monday, April 2nd.

Curriculum
Science:  We’re still working on fossils, but we’ll soon begin learning about the rock cycle.
Spelling: List #24 Bonus words: minerals & rendezvous
Math: We began Topic 14 today. This chapter covers area and perimeter in detail.
Book Report: The final book report will be based on one of the Battle books.  Your student can choose from any book on his or her assigned list, and will then create a report of the book on a cereal box.  Just be thinking about the project for now—I’ll send home more information and a rubric on Monday.

Dear Parents,
We’re having a super week.  The students have been really enjoying their time learning about and making fossils.  We’ve also learned some interesting facts about mink farming in social studies.  The decimal unit is also going very well, as a matter of fact, we began multiplying with decimals today.
Please remember the science fair tomorrow.  Projects need to be set up in the gym between 8:30 and 9:00 in the morning.  Parents and family are invited to come back to the school between 1:30 and 3:00 to view projects.  It should be a great day tomorrow!!!
